router

A device that forwards data packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork. Routers are like traffic directors of the Internet.

A device that forwards data packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork.

It is connected to two or more data lines fron different networks.  When a data packet comes in from one line, the router reads the address information  in the packet to help direct it to the correct location. After that, the router directs the packet to the next network on its path to a final destination.
